**About the Indian 50 Rupees Note**
The ₹50 note is a denomination of the Indian rupee. The current ₹50 banknote in circulation is part of the Mahatma Gandhi New Series. However, ₹50 banknotes from the previous Mahatma Gandhi Series continue to be legal tender. The ₹50 banknote was first introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1975 as part of the Lion Capital Series, featuring the Ashoka pillar. It was later replaced by a watermark of Mahatma Gandhi in the Mahatma Gandhi Series in 1996. On November 10, 2016, the Reserve Bank of India announced a newly redesigned ₹50 banknote as part of the Mahatma Gandhi New Series. This note was officially introduced on August 18, 2017, and is currently in circulation. The previous series of ₹50 banknotes will still be accepted as legal tender.
